The Readers

LICENSED READERS

Readers are people in the local congregation authorised by the Bishop to help lead services and to preach. They also undertake other responsibilities and can be given permission to officiate at funerals when the need arises.

Pam Corps

Pam, a retired Community nurse who practised in South Manchester, was licensed as a Reader in 2008. She also co-ordinates a St. Margaret’s team aiming to visit all households in the parish over a 2 year span. Pam and husband Gareth’s other main interest is the Fair Trade movement, giving producers in the developing world a fair and living wage. They organise regular Tradecraft stalls in the Parish Centre.

Pearl Hardy

Pearl, a retired social worker specialising in adoption, has been a Reader since 1995. She is also a leader of a Home Group and is involved in the work amongst older people.  In March 2010 she completed a Diocesan Spiritual Companionship course and now supports individuals on a one-to-one basis on their spiritual journey.

Jane Thompson

Jane is our Rector Ian’s wife, and has just retired from teaching adults needing qualifications for University. She is looking forward to having time to cook, sew and garden, and also undertake ‘Granny duty’ for 5 grandchildren (plus 2 on the way).

Jane has been a Reader since 2003, and finds it both challenging and satisfying being involved in this way, with a particular focus as part of the Celebration Team planning the monthly all-age morning service.
